About the GDV-ANIA Chapter
From the GDV-ANIA community website:
Chapter Mission
Support and enhance the role of the Informatics Nurse to improve the safety, quality and efficiency of health care delivery.
Our History
Greater Delaware Valley ANIA Chapter (GDV.ANIA) was formerly known as Delaware Valley Nursing & Computer Network (DVNCN).
Greater Delaware Valley ANIA, originally founded as DVNCN in the late 1980s in the Philadelphia area by a small group of acute care nurses who worked with computer systems, primarily in hospitals. The organization has grown to more than 400 active members from a variety of healthcare settings.
Since GDV.ANIA’s inception, Nursing Informatics (NI) has become a body of knowledge studied at both the undergraduate and graduate level. In 1992, the American Nurses Association (ANA) recognized Nursing Informatics as a specialty. The American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Informatics Nurse board certification shortly followed.
Our members practice NI in a variety of settings, including but not limited to hospitals, long-term care facilities and technology vendor organizations. They work as analysts, project managers, program managers, educators and consultants promoting nursing practice through nursing informatics.
Purpose
GDV.ANIA is a not-for-profit association with professional and educational objectives. This collaborative effort enhances career growth and professional opportunities through the following:
- Educational activities that utilize the talent of domain experts who share knowledge related to the field of both nursing and healthcare informatics
- Conferences that provide a forum for networking and collaboration on various topics germane to the field of informatics
- Networking together to identify and share emerging trends related to the use of innovative technology by nurses
